What would happen to a philosopher at a major university who advocates intelligent design?

If he has tenure, it falls under academic freedom. However, he would be considered a crank and not respected by academia or science. If he doesn't have tenure, he probably wouldn't get it, because he couldn't get papers published in respected journals. Philosophers have more leeway for buffoonery than biologists though, they aren't scientists and don't follow the scientific method.
