How do you get your guy best friend to ask you out?

We both like each other and we both know it. He's called me pretty, I've called him cute, and what not. We text every day, but it's like we have 3 convos a day instead of a continuous one, and that's all we do. We used to go to school together but I just changed schools so I won't see him there anymore and we've only hung out once... We are friends with each others friends and even they know we like each other and have been trying to hook us up... I don't want to ask him out cuz I've had a bad experience with that, but I don't think he's gonna ask. I'll say something like, It'll be weird not talking to u for 3 weeks (I'm going to visit my relatives and I can only text with wi-fi which i wont have) and he kinda changed the subject, like 'u wont have wi-fi? where r u going again?'. I Know he likes me, but I'm not so sure sometimes... Any tips on getting him to ask me on a date?
